6 & 12 mile Trail Race

The year’s first real climb, all the way to the top of Double Oak Mountain

Race Day - May 25th, 2024 Saturday!

The race will take place on Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday, May 25th,

NOT on Memorial day.

This is race #2 of the Southeastern Trail Series. The race starts at 8:00 AM at the Redbud Pavilion at Oak Mountain State Park. There is a $5 per person fee to enter Oak Mtn State Park. Exact change will help.

THE RACE IS TIMED WITH “HUTAGS” THAT STRAP TO YOUR ANKLE. THEY ARE VERY COMFORTABLE IF YOU RUN IN SOCKS THAT ARE LONG ENOUGH TO COVER YOU ANKLE.

PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE RACE WEARING THE “HUTAG!”

Resolute Running Preview Run - Date to be announced.

Resolute Running and Alex Morrow will be hosting a preview run of the Memorial Day Weekend 6 & 12 mile course. The run will start at the BMX Track at Oak Mountain State Park at 7:00 AM. Everyone is invited but please let Alex know you plan to run by following the link to the FB event and select “Going.”

Memorial Day 6 Mile Loop

The course is a 6.2 mile loop. Each year the course reverse directions. In Even Years “2020, 2022, 2024, etc.) the race will be run in the clockwise direction. In odd years, 2023, 2025, etc. it will be run counterclockwise. The race starts at the Redbud Pavilion adjacent to the BMX track on Tranquility Road. Follow the “Arrow Banners” along the main road.

Clockwise Years: The run begins with a short lap around the BMX track on Tranquility Road, then enters the woods to the left of the Redbud Pavilion. Runners will follow the yellow trail around Tranquility Lake to the junction with the white trail just before Maggie’s Glen. Go right up the white trail to Shackleford Ridge. Follow the ridge about a mile and turn right down the mountain on the Yellow/White Connector. At the Red Bike Road go left about 100 ft. and back right onto the Yellow Trail. Follow Yellow to the start/finish at Redbud. Six milers run one lap of the course and finish when they run under the timing arch. 12 milers will stop at the aid station, if desired, run under the arch and turn left heading straight back into the woods to start the second lap. DO NOT run around the paved road. (The aid station will be located on the east side of the pavilion. Stop at the aid station before going through the arch at the end of the first lap.)

Counterclockwise Years: The run begins with a short lap around the BMX track on Tranquility Road, then enters the woods behind the Redbud Pavilion on the Yellow Trail. (You are heading southwest) Follow the Yellow Trail to the Red Bike Trail and go left about 100 ft. At the Yellow/White Connector Trail, turn right and climb to the top of Double Oak Mountain. At the intersection with the White Trail go left following White about a mile along the ridge. Stay on White as it turns left downhill off the ridge and connects into the Yellow Trail. Go left on Yellow all the way back around Tranquility Lake back to the start/finish at Redbud. Six milers run one lap of the course and finish when they run under the timing arch. 12 milers will run under the arch and stop at the aid station if desired. Continue straight back into the woods to start the second lap. DO NOT run around the paved road. (The aid station will be located on the east side of the pavilion. Stop at the aid station after going through the arch at the end of the first lap.)

It is getting a little harder.

The 2nd race in the Southeastern Trail Series is a little harder than the previous race. Not only have we increased the distance to 6 and 12 miles, we have added a climb to the top of Double Oak Mountain. The Memorial Day Trail Race will present runners with the first real climb or climbs, depending on whether you are running the 6 or 12 mile race. Runners will climb from Maggie's Glen on the white trail, up Shackleford Ridge, then across the ridge and up to Shackleford Point. This is the highest point in Oak Mountain State Park. You will then descend on the Yellow/White Connector to the start. The views off Shackleford Ridge are great, but the terrain is technical in places so you will need to pay attention to your footing. If you have run the first two races and kept up your training in between, you are ready.  Course map and directions to the start are available on the Memorial Day Trail Race Website.
