2024 SOUTNEASTERN TRAIL SERIES

Welcome to the 12th Annual

Southeastern Trail Runs Race Series

In an effort to promote trail running and introduce new runners to the trails, Southeastern Trail Runs created a series of six races, all in the Birmingham area in 2013. Again in 2024 the series will start in March with the Tranquility Lake 3 and 6 mile trail races and slowly build distance through the spring, summer and fall, culminating in an Ultra distance race in December with The Blood Rock 25 & 55K. Runners that follow the series and build up training distance throughout the year will be ready for the 25K or 55K. Those that wish to go further can continue to train over the winter and by March will be ready for the Lake Martin 50 or even the Lake Martin 100.

The series will consist of 6 races. Each race will offer opportunities to run further than the previous race, with more difficult terrain and more elevation gain. Participants will earn points for each event completed based on how they finished in each event. Points leaders at the end of the series will receive special awards as Southeastern Trail Series Points Champions. All races will take place in the Birmingham area.

Sign up for the Full Long Series or the Full Short Series before April 4th and save 20%. You will receive a Race Shirt for each of the 6 series races.

This offer my not be combined with any other discount offers.

2024 Southeastern Trail Series Points final Totals for 2024

Points Series Rules:

1) To be eligible for any awards in the overall Southeastern Trail Series runners must have completed three “series” races during the calendar year.

2) SHORT series races count in the short series ONLY. LONG series races count in the long series ONLY. There are three exceptions to this rule.

a) RUN FOR KIDS: Short series runners may switch to the 12 Hour RUN FOR KIDS. The maximum points available are 6.2.

b) BLOOD ROCK: Runners in the short series may move up to the 50K. The maximum points available will be 16.7.

c) LONG SERIES RUNNERS may move up to the Blood Rock 50 Mile or 100 Mile. Maximum points available will be 31.6

NOTE: 1) Unofficial finishes count in the trail series points calculations. When a runner drops down during a race, from a longer distance to a shorter distance, for example, from the 100 to the 50, and successfully finishes the 50, Ultrasignup results require that runner to be listed as an “Unofficial Finisher.” This is so the “runner rankings” are correct. We include the points earned by runners listed as “Unofficial” finishers to calculate the series points totals.

NOTE 2) I have done my best to change all those that moved up and down in the BLOOD ROCK races. Especially those that are in contention for overall awards. I very likely missed a few. If you dropped down during the Blood Rock, or Moved up to a longer distance, (or moved up to a longer race, then moved back down) please check your points.

Points Calculations for the Series Championship.

Everyone who runs a Southeastern Trail Series Race earns points that are applied to the overall Points Championship. It is not necessary to register for the full series to earn points in the series championship. Points earned in each long race are only applied to the Long Series Points Totals. Points earned in each short series Race are only applied to the Short Series Points Totals. There are two exceptions to this rule listed below. To be eligible for series awards runners must complete at least 3 series races.

1) Those registered for the Short Series are automatically entered in the Run for Kids 10K. They may move up to the 12 Hour for an additional fee, if desired. We allow this because the RFK is a fundraiser for Smile-A-Mile and every dime taken in beyond the most basic expenses, goes to SAM. The 12 hour entry fee is more that twice the 10K fee. That additional fee goes to SAM. Short Series runners will earn a maximum of 6.1 points if they run the 12 hour. Points are based on how they finish in the 12 Hour. Long Series runners are automatically entered in the 12 Hour.

2) Blood Rock 100 Mile and 50 Mile. Short Series runners are automatically entered in the 25K. All Short Series Runners may move their registration to the Blood Rock 50K, 50 Mile or 100 Mile for an additional fee. Points will be calculated based on their finish position in the longer race but the maximum points available will be 16.7. 50K Runners may also move up to the 50 or 100. Points will be calculated based on their finish position, but only 31.6 points are available.

How Points are Calculated

Points are calculated based on the distance of the race in miles. Each mile counts as one point. For example, Memorial Day Race is 6 miles (short series) and 12 miles (long series.) The winner of 6 mile race earns 6 points. The winner of the 12 mile earns 12 points. All other runners earn points based on their finish time as a percent of the winners time. Below are the calculations of points for the fist 6 male finishers in the 2022 Memorial Day 12Mile Trail Race.

Finish Time Seconds % Points

1) 01:48:44.07 6524 1.000 12.000

2) 01:58:10.94 7090 0.920 11.042

3) 01:59:42.65 7182 0.908 10.901

4) 02:00:45.50 7245 0.900 10.806

5) 02:03:07.61 7387 0.883 10.598

6) 02:03:07.47 7387 0.883 10.598

Calculation of 3rd place Points:

3rd Place Finish time is 1:59:42 = 7182 Seconds.

The winning time is 6524 seconds. The winning time is divided by 7182 seconds =0.908.

12 points X 0.908 = 10.901 points earned.
